About the Position
We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Paralegal/Legal Secretary/Assistant to join our Troy office. This is a part-time role with a consistent schedule of 24 hours per week, worked Tuesday through Thursday. Some flexibility is available if the right candidate prefers a slightly reduced schedule of 18–20 hours. There are no nights or weekends.

You will support the attorney with probate, estate planning, and related matters while helping the office run smoothly. This role is well-suited to someone who thrives in a focused work environment, enjoys direct client interaction, and takes pride in producing polished, accurate work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft and file probate pleadings in Oakland, Wayne, and Macomb Probate Courts
  • Draft estate planning documents, including use of HotDocs
  • Research and draft various deeds for real estate matters
  • Review legal documents for accuracy, grammar, and consistency, and prepare court-ready versions
  • Compose and format professional correspondence independently or from attorney notes
  • Manage communications with clients, courts, and vendors with professionalism
  • Organize physical and digital files and maintain strict confidentiality
  • Support daily administrative tasks that keep the practice running efficiently

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience as a legal secretary, paralegal, or legal assistant in a small to medium size law firm
  • Experience in at least one of our practice areas: estate planning, probate, trusts, elder law, or business law is a must
  • Typing speed of 75+ words per minute (typing test required)
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, including formatting, templates, and styles
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook for email, calendar, and task management
  • Intermediate proficiency with Adobe Pro, including editing documents
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • Exceptional attention to detail, grammar, and document presentation
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines with minimal supervision

What We Offer

  • Competitive pay of $40.00 to $50.00 per hour, depending on experience.
    • Applicants with five (5) or more years of recent law firm experience are eligible for $40.00 or more per hour.
    • Applicants with seven (7) or more years of current estate planning and probate law firm experience, combined with strong technology skills, are eligible for the top rate of $50.00 per hour.
  • Choice of a stable 24-hour weekly schedule (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday), with flexibility for slightly fewer hours, if you need it
